{"id":2759,"date":"2017-01-18T17:11:55","date_gmt":"2017-01-18T22:11:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/prismadentistes.ca\/?p=2759"},"modified":"2021-09-01T11:16:37","modified_gmt":"2021-09-01T16:16:37","slug":"bulimia-and-effects-on-teeth","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.prismadentistes.ca\/en\/bulimia-and-effects-on-teeth\/","title":{"rendered":"Bulimia and effects on teeth"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Repeated vomiting can cause serious damage to the teeth.<\/p>\n<p>Bulimia is an eating disorder: people binge-eat large amounts of food, then they throw up, fast, or engage in some other harmful behaviour, such as using laxatives or exercising to excess to rid their bodies of all the extra calories.<\/p>\n<p>Vomit is especially toxic because it contains stomach acids. The acids can wear away the enamel that covers and protects your teeth. Brushing your teeth too hard after you vomit can also contribute to tooth erosion and tooth decay.<\/p>\n<h2>Here are the dental conditions associated with bulimia:<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Cavities<\/li>\n<li>Yellow teeth<\/li>\n<li>Erosion<\/li>\n<li>Swollen salivary glands<\/li>\n<li>Mouth sores<\/li>\n<li>Dry mouth and pain<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If the teeth have been worn out by the acidity of frequent vomiting, a composite filling is recommended in order to cover the exposed dentin and replace the missing enamel structure.<\/p>\n<p>Frequent visits to the dentist and the use of fluoridated toothpaste are also crucial.
