This patient from Montr\u00e9al had yellow teeth in various shades. Dr. Fran\u00e7ois Lechner performed a bleaching treatment and added two porcelain veneers on the central incisors.<\/p>\n

The natural colour of teeth varies from grey to yellow depending on many factors. Teeth change colour naturally with age; however using tobacco products as well as consuming certain foods and beverages can change their\u00a0appearance.<\/p>\n

Teeth whitening is the most popular treatment in dental offices. Who would not like to have a more radiant smile and whiter teeth?<\/p>\n

To respond to this huge demand, various whitening products are available. Prices vary depending on the technique\u00a0used. But which product will be the best for your needs?<\/p>\n

The majority of whitening products are made from hydrogen peroxide and could change the tooth colour. However, bleaching products are not necessarily as effective.<\/p>\n

First you must consult with your dentist who will help you determine the cause of the discoloration. Non-vital teeth do not bleach well and need other treatments. Also, whitening treatments are not possible on porcelain crowns, veneers, or all other restorations. As a result, these restorations might not match your natural teeth colour after whitening.<\/p>\n

At the dental office, a spectrophotometer is used to determine the actual colour of the teeth. A treatment plan will be determined.<\/p>\n

If your teeth are grayish, we generally recommend a take-home program with costume-made trays and a low-concentration whitening gel.<\/p>\n

If you have yellow teeth, we recommend an in-office whitening treatment with costume-trays for touch-ups.<\/p>\n

Teeth sensitivity and tissue irritation might occur during the whitening treatment. This, however, is temporary.<\/p>\n

It is important to understand that the results of this treatment cannot be guaranteed and can vary depending on the patient\u2019s oral hygiene habits.<\/p>\n
