Snoring
Snoring is the noise made by people’s breathing when they sleep. Very unpleasant for the family, snoring can be a consequence of health issues or caused by fatigue, alcohol or tranquilizers. It may also be an indicator of the presence of obstructive sleep apnea.
Did you know that 25% of men and 15% of women suffer from major habitual snoring? Between 40% to 60% of people over the age of 40 occasionally snore.*
Reasons why we snore
When we sleep, our tongue and the tissues at the back of our throat relax and tend to reduce the flow of air; all these lead to snoring. Snoring can be caused or exacerbated by certain conditions:
- Pregnancy
- Being overweight
- Large tonsils,
- allergies
- Respiratory tract infections
- Etc.
Did you know that the size of our tongue is also influenced by overweight? Each kilogram of body weight corresponds to one gram at the base of the tongue!
The causes of your snoring and the treatments that apply to your situation will be determined by an assessment of your health status and a thorough examination by a dentist. For example, nasal cones and oral appliances are proven solutions to stop snoring.
